Mage Sage Abilities

This page describes the sage abilities that a mage is able to possess. Mages have four fields: civitas, humanities, power and science. Each field has a set number of studies that have links leading to a deeper description of each.

Starting at 1st level, mages gain one field and one study in that field. This reflects the knowledge that the mage has been able to gather while studying their calling. This knowledge is then expanded as the mage increases in level, for it is presumed that the mage is naturally inquisitive, exchanging techniques with others, studying magic, physically improving their minds at every opportunity, growing more adept and able with respect to the concerns of civilization, the humanities, power, science and so on.

This is true even if the player never expresses their intention to gather knowledge, as not every moment of 'downtime' is actively accounted for during play.

  1. Alexis, looks like the paladin's sage abilities intro text is at the start of the mage's sage abilities descriptions. Also, if I may ask while I have your attention, do characters earn knowledge points as they advance in level in order to improve their sage abilities, and if so, what are the details?

  2. Thank you. That's fixed. Have to check some of the other classes, I probably made the same mistake elsewhere.

For sage ability knowledge growth, look at the description under Cleric Sage Abilities:

I shall try to find the time to include this information on the sage abilities table. If you find this isn't enough info, get back to me.
