When there is a chance of being attacked by a giant insect (including spiders), any character that has had 1 fluid ounce of citronella oil applied to their body has a 2 in 6 chance of the creature hesitating, recoiling or otherwise behaving in a non-aggressive fashion due to having a whiff of the stuff. However, if the chance fails, the creature will attack characters normally.
Citronella oil has no effect on the spells summon insects, insect plague, creeping doom or other similar spells, as the creatures affected by these spells do not behave normally but are compelled to act by magic.
